Section 1-Key Vocabulary
First Continental Congress-a gathering of colonial leaders who were deeply troubled about the relationship between Great Britain and its colonies in the Americas.
2.  Patriots-colonists who chose to fight for independence from Great Britain.
3.  minutemen-got their name because they were ready to fight at a minute's notice.
4. Redcoats-the name given to the British because of the bright red jacket they always wore which made them an easy target for the colonists.
5.  Second Continental Congress-the second group from the colonies that represented the first attempt at a Republican government in the colonies.  They were not unified.
6.  Continental Army-included soldiers from all colonies and would carry out the fight against Britain.
7.  Battle of Bunker Hill-this battle took place in Boston and it demonstrated that the colonies could fight well against the British army.
