Confucius, also known as Kongfuzi, lived from 551-479 B.C.  His philosophy said to do what is right rather than what will just help you.  Confucius saw himself as a teacher who helped people understand the past.  Confucius believed that the key to happiness was a good education because helping others ["benevolence"] was a natural result of a good education and was the most important quality a person could have!  Confucius taught his students to love others and honor those who took care of them.  He did not believe that rulers of the government should have to send their people to war but should instead focus on governing.  In that way, Confucius shows many similarities to Gandhi and Dr. King.  Confucius' philosophy greatly affected Chinese religion as Confucianism became a major part of China.  Confucius is very popular today especially for his quotes:
