How can we study Social Studies?  First, we need to see the world as a "whole" and then begin to break it down into 'specialized' areas of study such as World History and American History.

When was the world physically "whole"?-According to some scientists, the world was once "one" or a "whole".  This theory refers to when all 7 continents were connected only to gradually separate.  The word used to explain the once "oneness" of the world is PANGAEA.

Questions to ponder about Pangaea-

*How can people survive if they are part of one continent?  (a super-continent)

*What would happen if there were only one ocean?

["Panthalassa" is Greek for "all seas"]

*Who would be most affected if the world was one?  How?  Why?  (Explain)

*Would there be peace or more war and to what extent on Pangaea?

*Would humans divide themselves or separate themselves from one another?  Why?

*Think of the problems the world faces today (i.e. in 2009).  Would the same problems exist or cease to exist?  Explain.
