Let's start with the individual...

1.  The individual can add ideas, theories, and thoughts to the world.  What other purpose does the individual have?

2.  Families stick together or break apart for many reasons.  What reasons do families have for staying together/breaking apart?  E.G.->Economic

3. Inhabiting houses and buildings force people to interact with others outside of their family.  How does this interaction affect the individual?

4.  Blocks & neighborhoods are typically made up of people in similar economic situations.  Does this unify people?  Is this good for social mobility?

5. Furthermore, towns & villages also affect the individual's family.  How is that statement true?

6.  How is the individual affected by the laws made by states & provinces?

7. Countries have different cultures and customs depending on where you may visit or live.  The United States is extremely diverse.  Does the U.S. offer an opportunity to everyone or do you feel America does not give its citizens a fair chance in life?

8.  How does a continent help a define a person?  How does geography make a difference in everyone's life?

*How does the world need each individual?

* How are our beliefs, attitudes, and perceptions important to the world?

___________________________________________________________________

We start studying the world (what we can and can not see) by specializing in specific areas of study.  We use all of our senses to learn.

Why do we need answers?

What makes us want to keep learning?

What are some specialty areas that we use to help us learn about ourselves and the world?

astronomy-we study the physical world

astrology-we base our ideas around belief

philosophy-we think about the world in many ways in search of wisdom; philosophy encompasses the study of everything (literally) and much of what is studied can not be seen (non-empirical)

*People study the purpose of their lives and create their own answers.

psychology-humans help humans (includes economic factors)

sociology-we observe human groups to understand human behavior

anthropology-we study the past based on evidence

psychiatry-we help people by using science and medicine

*Every area of learning can be broken down into a specialized area.

E.G.-> Science breaks down into biology, physics, earth science, etc.

***We need to understand the world by knowing our surroundings first.  From studying the theory of Pangaea to being able to locate the 7 continents on a map, we learn direction and we continue on our plan to understand ourselves better.
