Ancient Egyptian Culture!

The Hyksos most likely consisted of non-Egyptian groups who had come to the Egyptian delta from farther east in Asia.

Hyksos was not their name at the time.  The Egyptians called these peoples hega-khase.  Greeks who later heard this name called all of them Hyksos.

This site has a lot of cool things to check out so browse around on it:

What's going on with King Tut now?

The conquest that the rulers of the middle Kingdom made was to conquer Nubia for its gold mines.

The technology that helped the Hyksos conquer the Egyptians consisted of horses and chariots, bronze weapons, and sturdy bows.

Egypt benefited from conquering nearby lands by gaining resources, enriching its own economy, and helping the pharaohs build an empire.

The problems that may have led the Egyptian government to improve its army and navy during the years of the New Kingdom: The government had to increase its military power because Egypt now ruled large territories and had more trade routes to protect.

The New Kingdom got olive oil from Greece.

The Red and Mediterranean seas were important for Egyptian trade in addition to the Nile.

Hatshepsut became pharaoh after the death of her husband.  The fact that she became pharaoh was significant because Hatshepsut is the first woman ruler known to history.

The actions of Hatshepsut that showed her to be a responsible leader of her country were her organization of expeditions which made Egypt a wealthy trading partner!

 Hatshepsut!

Egypt's problems reached a crisis during Akhenaton's reign because he forbade the worship of Amon and practiced monotheism, which angered the priests; he encouraged a realistic style of art; he basically didn't care about the empire!

Science Connection-

Egyptian astronomers, without the use of telescopes were able to identify 5 of the solar system's planets!  Why is that so impressive?

The Greeks were also able to locate planets, and they used a word similar to that of the Egyptians to describe what they saw in the sky.  Our word planet, in fact, comes from a Greek word for "wanderer".

Egyptian astronomers also developed some comprehension of eclipses, which they called "meetings of the sun and moon."

Some examples of the major achievements of ancient Egyptian culture were:

the pyramids:

the Temples in Nubia:
