Lesson I-The Indus River Valley

Melting Snow causes the Indus River to flood in the spring!

(A nice picture of the Upper Indus River)

The fertile silt carried by the river is the gift that is referred to in the subhead "The River's Gift".

The Arabian Sea, Indian Ocean, and Bay of Bengal surround the Indian subcontinent.

(Arabian Sea)

People began farming in the Indus Valley around 6000 B.C.

Some advantages of a 2-crop year were that people could grow a variety of crops in greater amounts.

Indus River Agriculture

Farming in the Indus River valley wasn't always great or dependable especially because fields could be swept away by Indus floodwaters.  Farmers had to also be careful of wild animals!
