Keeping Up With Homework-The key to staying on top of all of your assignments is to stay ahead.  Every student can stay ahead of their classwork.  For example, in my class, I always give assignments out early and explain which work is Okay for you to complete ahead of time to assure a good homework average.  Just like I mentioned in the studying department, you should invest time in homework and check your work in order to make sure the spelling, grammar, sentence structure, and content are what you want to submit for credit.

Class Participation- Participating in class not only keeps students focused on the topic but greatly adds to class dicussions and each students comprehension of the current material.  Each students opinions are important to good class discussions.  In addition, when there are different views on topics, we learn to respect others beliefs and opposing views.  That is an important skill to have for the future in high school and college!

Presentations-Presentations teach us to be proud of our work as you have an opportunity to show the class the great work that you produced.  In addition, public speaking skills are priceless!  Public speaking gives you confidence which is crucial to obtaining a good education.  When preparing your speech, make sure you are using the outline I give you and, of course, practice as much as possible.  You will do great.

Attendance-It is very important to be in class because every lesson includes many important study skills that are beneficial for every student.  For example, when we have a lesson on geography and the Great Lakes, a trick you will learn in this class is to use a mnemonic (a rhyme/way of remembering something) called HOMES which stands for Huron, Ontario, Michigan, Erie, and Superior.  It's important to use these learning devices/rhymes and it helps making learning fun.

Effort, Attitude, and Positive Belief-I truly believe that if you try, participate in class, and believe in yourself that you can achieve great goals!  So, reach for the stars and you will get them!

General Study Tips [Key's To Success]

Practice spelling and checking your work before submitting work to the teacher.-It is very important to look up words that you do not know the meaning of.  Practice taking notes by writing down words you need to know.  You will see that this will help with your comprehension of the subject matter.
*If there is a word that you are having difficulty spelling, you can practice writing it down 5 times and then ask your friends in school to quiz you on the spelling.  Spelling will always be a very important part of education!

Studying-
*When you find out that there is an upcoming quiz/test/mid-term/final exam., the key to doing well is investing some time each night in studying the review sheet and, again, having a friend quiz you on the material.  If you do this every night until you know all of the material, you will do great.  Everyone has great potential!

Cursive-Practice your script at home as it will be needed for certain essays in the future (including this year).

Ask questions-If you have a question, please ask.  In addition, you will be doing a lot of research this year which will require you to look many topics up and ask many questions.
