Mahatma was born on October 2, 1869 and passed way on January 30, 1948.
October 2nd
is the International Day of Non-Violence.
Gandhi was
also called Bapu (Hindu for father).

We study Mahatma Gandhi to become inspired to do better in our own lives. Gandhi was
a very unique, rare, and principled individual who had a plan which could not be broken. Mohandas knew that the British
rule needed to end and that the only way he could make a difference was to not beat the British at their own game. Gandhi
knew that he had to do what was right and what he believed. Mr. Gandhi did not believe in war or violence of any sort.
As a matter of fact, he was so anti-violence that he would protest any violence by fasting.
As a leader, Gandhi was extremely bright and knew how to get the right people on his side in order to help
accomplish his goal of freeing his people. For example, Gandhi utilized the media (such as the N.Y. Times) to get publicity
to stir up positive support for his fight against the British. The people needed a leader and Gandhi showed us a true
leader that lived according to principles and did not budge at all! When we think
of the relevancy of Mahatma Gandhi to life today we can think about what principles he had that we want our next President
to possess in 2009.
